History of Windows

Often times we take for granted when we turn on a laptop and get on the internet. Back when I started to get excited in this field, DOS 6.22 was the thing on PC’s (Windows 3.1 was just starting to come about). Below is a quick screen shot that I pulled from the interwebs with a quick google search.

p style=”text-align: left;”>With DOS 6.22 you used to have to write your own start up scripts to preform different functions, below is a small less detailed version of one of those scripts.
@ECHO OFF
PROMPT $P$G
PATH C:\DOS;C:\WINDOWS
SET TEMP=C:\TEMP
SET BLASTER=A220 I7 D1 T2
LH SMARTDRV.EXE
LH DOSKEY
LH MOUSE.COM /Y

From here, we moved on to Windows 3.1, I have done a search and came up with a screen shot of the GUI (Stands for graphical user interface) form of Windows 3.1.

Actually, you can still see some cues, that is still used today, but if you notice, its just finally more refined. It took 20+ years to polish the OS (operating System) to look like a beautiful work of art. Some may say it still isn’t polished. While Microsoft was building this, Apple was building their Apple OS (It wasn’t really Mac yet (Macintosh was just a PC name at the time).

The next logical progression in this look back is Windows 95. The video below is the reason I decided to post this story. I will let them guide you through the next portion of history. Video: Teens react to Windows 95.
